TRACKS: 1. A Mountain Reverie (7:48) INFO: After playing in several bands without much of a future, I took to writing a solo album to finally purge my brain of musical compositions. Writing the music was easy; the difficult part was recording. While sitting in a small room filled with a drum set, a keyboard, two guitars, and a bass, I grew claustrophobic over the seven months I wrote and recorded this album. Playing through an interface with my DAW (Digital Audio Workstation), I was able to record every sound I'd hoped to with the help of a few mics for my acoustic guitar and drums. I believe in a rich composition of layered guitars, so in many tracks there are upwards of three guitars composing the melodies. As you might have seen, I also believe in lengthy albums, and so this one is about double the standard, which comes out to 63 minutes. I received inspiration for most of these songs through hiking off-trail in various landscapes at all hours of the day. There I could clear my head, listen to nature, and let the music find me. The cover of this album along with all other pictures posted on this site, fitting enough, is where I often hike. Though it's my first attempt at composing music during the 11 years of my musicianship, I'm satisfied with the outcome and my only ambition is to be heard and enjoyed by many musicians and listeners. I'd like to be an inspiration to other thriving musicians, and so we'll see how the future goes. For that reason I appreciate any support I receive. SEASONS TRACKS: 1) Hamilton Yarns - The Birds Bob (January) (5:29) INFO: I was contacted via MySpace about a project called, "Seasons." A Russian music organization, experement.org, was interested in creating an indie album that encompassed the 12 months of the year. I chose to write a song for May, entitled "Maritime May," after recently watching "Life Acquatic With Steve Zissou" an unhealthy number of times. All I could think of was the jaguar shark that Bill Murray was so adamant about catching. Being a fan of Billy Murray and "Lost in Translation," my favorite movie of all time, and "Broken Flowers," I decided to follow the ocean theme of Billy Murray's latest movie at the time to see where it would take me. Luckily, I found great inspiration in maritime thoughts, and the outcome of the song was a mix of upbeat and downbeat tempos, both bright and dark with a sudden transition between the two. Maritime May is, I feel, my best produced song thus far, and I will continue with the ocean theme for my third album, so far unnanounced. The rest of the music on the compilation switches from indie, to folk, to acoustic, and to pure vocals. It's a rather odd but refreshing mixture of styles that complements each season well, and I am glad to be a part of this project. Please visit experement.org to obtain a free copy of this compilation, or email me for a hard copy. TRACKS: 1) Exodus from Planet Earth INFO: My second album (pronounced Sola Fee-day: Latin for "faith alone") will most likely be released during the summer of 2010. Though I have only recorded three tracks so far, each song is planned with my recorded samples to remind me what the other songs will become. This album will be somewhat more like shoegaze or post-rock music in that it will be a concept, or dreamscape album. Set in space in the point of view of a dying astronaut, these are his last feelings of existence as he slowly floats away from Earth and towards the sun. Each song is a progression from one state of mind to the next, many of which are solemn, melodic moods, and his journey ends with a last breath and the transcendence from one life to the next. This is the journey away from mankind to a new spiritual beginning, and I anticipate these recordings very much. I only hope there are more people out there who enjoy the ambient tones of melodic guitars that venture outside standard rhythms and sounds. The title of the album is based on one of Martin Luther's five principles, "faith alone," which states that we are not to live on the empirical side of life but, like an artist, we are to live through feeling, faith, and a unique transcendence of our bodies. While I can guarantee that I'm not from a New Age cult, I simply admire the creations of space, time, and existence, and have come to understand it not through science, but through artistic expression and faith in a greater purpose and omnipotent entity than ourselves.
